The artists with developmentally and mentally disabilities

Introduction

Introducing celebrities/celebrities/great people (titles, academic background, books, stories, etc.) who worked hard to develop their careers despite having developmental disabilities.

The “main developmental disorder symptoms” covered on this site are ASD (autism spectrum disorder), ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), and LD (localized learning disorder), but the following coexisting characteristics include mild cognitive impairment. We also deal with intellectual disabilities (intellectual developmental disorders), sensory sensitivities, developmental coordination disorder, stuttering, aphasia, mutism, tic disorders, LGBTQ, and savant syndrome.

【Characteristics of developmental disorders】
・ASD (autism spectrum disorder)
・ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder)
・LD (specific learning disabilities including dyslexia and dyscalculia)

【Characteristics and symptoms comorbid or related to developmental disorders】
・Intellectual disability (intellectual developmental disorder: generally refers to an IQ below 70, but the area of borderline intelligence with an IQ of 70-85 is sometimes called the “intellectual disability gray zone”)
・HSP (Highly Sensitive Person: A state in which the senses such as sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch are hypersensitive and have difficulty in daily life, which is called “sensory hypersensitivity”)
・DCD (Developmental Coordination Disorder: A condition in which people have difficulty coordinating their movements and are extremely clumsy with whole-body movements and finger movements; this is called Developmental Coordination Disorder.'') ・Stuttering (a symptom in which words cannot be spoken or come out smoothly; also called childhood-onset fluency disorder”)

  • ・Facial agnosia (a condition in which it is impossible to identify individuals by looking at the entire face; also called “prosopagnosia”)
・Mutism (a condition in which the mouth is closed and the person is unable to say anything under certain circumstances; also called “mutism”)
・Tic disorder (a disorder in which sudden and irregular rapid movements of parts of the body or repeated vocalizations occur; if there are multiple motor tics and one or more types of vocal tics continue for more than a year, it is called “Tourette’s disorder”)
・LGBTQ (Lesbian: female homosexual, Gay: male homosexual, Bisexual: bisexual, Transgender: person with a different gender in mind and body, Queer/Questioning: includes person whose sexual orientation/gender identity is undecided)
・Gifted (refers to a person with autism or intellectual disability who is congenitally superior in some abilities; also known as “Savant Syndrome”)

【Classification of academic background】
・Science (green)
・Literature (orange)

As for the occupation trends of success stories (celebrities) of people with developmental disabilities, freelance work such as entrepreneurs, writers, artists, and entertainers stands out.

In terms of educational background, there are relatively many people with a liberal arts background, but in the fields of mathematics, physics, and IT, there are quite a few examples of people with a science background.

If you are interested in a famous person, please click on the underlined blue text (Wikipedia, YouTube, related articles on this blog) and you will be able to see more detailed information from the linked page.

By the way, the books, CDs, and DVDs introduced on this site are for reference only and have been purchased and used by myself.

《Notes》
Presumed ASD, which is written before the alphabet of the name of a developmental disorder (e.g. presumed ASD), does not mean that the person has been officially diagnosed with a medical diagnosis, but that it is easy to conclude that the person has a developmental disorder based on his or her characteristics. It shows examples such as “The child is considered to have a developmental disability based on social reputation.”

The self-proclaimed name listed before the alphabet of the name of a developmental disorder (e.g., self-proclaimed ADHD) does not mean that the person has received a formal medical diagnosis, but it is a self-assessment or self-evaluation of one’s own characteristics. Cases in which a child was recognized and declared to have a developmental disorder are shown below.

In addition, among the above-mentioned “estimated” and “self-proclaimed” developmental disabilities, if the degree of disability is mild or somewhat ambiguous, “—proneness” is appended to the end of the name of the developmental disability.
