Introduction

Our family’s common interest is art.

My son has been good at drawing realistically with a pencil since he was a child. My daughter has a rich sense of color and draws imaginary landscapes. They also had an interest in music, having learned to play the piano when they were in elementary school.

Meanwhile, my wife, who is good with her hands and is a good knitter, actually knitted sweaters, scarves, hats, and stuffed animals for me and the kids.

I have paint aquatic organisms to soothe my son, daughter, and wife with developmentally and mentally disabilities.

My motif is painful, contradictory, and narrative spacetimes where the “world of children with developmental and mental disabilities“ and the “world of healthy adults” intersect discontinuously. I wish I could connect these two divided worlds through art.

I have been involved in industrial design and advertising design for over 20 years. Since this year, I have begun full-scale painting production.

In this chapter, I will introduce the paintings I created to heal the developmentally and mentally disabled.
